The Value in Becoming an Eagle Scout

When it rains, most birds head for shelter; the Eagle is the only bird that, in order to avoid the rain, starts flying above the cloud.

Created in 1911, Eagle Scout is the highest rank that can be earned as a Boy Scout. Because it takes years of hard work, service, patience, mental strength, and determination to become an Eagle Scout, this prestigious milestone is recognized across the country and the world. Having requirements of knowledge, teaching, dedication, perserverance, and leadership, why do teenagers (and their family’s) want to sacrifice so much to earn this award?

Some value the impact the award will have on their lives, others are encouraged by their parents and Scoutmasters, for some it may be a family tradition, and for many its friendship. The universal truth amongst all Eagle Scouts, though, is that they value their duty to God and their country, they focus their lives to service to others, and prioritize their journey to being morally straight and being mentally awake.

In Troop 205, we are blessed with a Scouting tradition that embodies all the pure values of Scouting, and this is best represented by our amazing Eagle Scouts. Andrew, Nathaniel, Gabriel, and Morgan all helped, pushed, laughed, encouraged, and mentored one another throughout their Scouting journey from Tiger Cub to Eagle. They excel at cutting up and having a great time, but know their duty and are willing to put God and others above themselves when they need to. These young men behave as Eagle Scouts in and out of uniform, and are amazing examples to the Scouts in the Troop, their family, and to everyone that they come into contact with..

They do understand though, that becoming Eagle isn’t the end of their journey, but just the beginning. They are now prepared to handle much more difficult life issues and are able to lead others in whatever is needed to be done.

We are all proud of these young men, and thankful they are Eagle Scouts from Troop 205!!!
