Eagle Scout Reference Guide

Earning your Eagle Scout is probably one of the greatest achievements a young adult can accomplish.  The path from Scout rank to Life Scout is long, tedious, fun, and requires a great deal of patience.  The final steps to earning the Eagle Scout Rank requirements are the most challenging and utilize all the skills a Scout has learned along their journey. A good Eagle project allows you to show planning, development and leadership skills, while allowing you to help someone by doing something you are passionate about.

Be careful, you have to be completely done before your 18th birthday!

Check out the Boys’ Life Eagle Project Showcase for online help, attend a scheduled Eagle Forum, talk to the Life Scout Rank coordinator, or the Scout Master if you have any questions.  You can never start planning too early!

Below is the process for a Life Scout wanting to apply to earn the Eagle Scout rank:

• Eagle Rank Requirements (PDF)- Make sure you have completed everything you need to advance
  1. Be active in your troop as a Life Scout for at least 6 months
  2. Earn 21 merit badges (13 Eagle Required and 8 of your choice)
  3. Have a leadership position as a Life Scout for at least 6 months**: Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Order of the Arrow troop rep., Den Chief, Scribe, Librarian, Historian, QM, Chaplain Aide, Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, Instructor, Webmaster or Leave No Trace trainer (**Assistant Patrol Leader, Bugler cannot be used)
  4. Service Project: benefit any religious institution, any school or your community (not Boy Scouting or for-profit organization)
     • Come up with an idea that will benefit your organization

     • The project proposal must be approved by the following before you can begin
       1. Benefiting organization (give the organization Information for Project Beneficiaries)
       2. Scout Master (Unit Leader)
       3. Committee Chairman (Unit Committee)
       4. Council or District representative
     • Must use the official Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook
  5. Scout Master (Unit Leader) Conference
  6. Eagle Board of Review- As part of your BoR attach the following to your application
     1. Complete your Eagle Scout Application
     2. Statement of your ambitions and life purpose
     3. Listing of your positions held in your religious institution, school, camp, community or other organizations; where you demonstrated leadership skills
     4. Honors and Awards during your service
